Meet Our Dance Teachers
Miss Gina Consumano
Gina Consumano has extensive training in ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, lyrical, hip hop, and ballroom dance. She was a competitive dancer in Northern Virginia, attended the Virginia Governor’s School for Performing Arts, has taken multiple workshops with Dance Masters of America, and continued her training at University of Virginia. While at University Gina served as Head Dance Instructor for the Universal Dance Association managing Dance Team Camps across the country for 500-800 dancers. Throughout her University years, Gina danced with the Virginia Dance Team and was named the 2008 Most Valuable Dancer and received the Best Choreography Award. In 2010 she received the Coach’s Award for Dedication and Outstanding Leadership. She also was part of the Virginia Dance Company as a performer and choreographer for two shows per year.
After graduating from University, Gina taught various styles of dance at several studios in Northern Virginia and Maryland. She has danced and choreographed for Capitol Movement Dance Company and traveled with the CMI Freedom Tour with Armed Forces Entertainment with performances in Greece, Portugal, Spain, Egypt, Japan, Cuba and Puerto Rico. She was a featured choreographer and dancer for the Woodbridge Dance Company Coffee House Collection Concert, and also performed in the DC Tap & Jaz Festival. In 2015 Gina traveled to Guangzhou, China where she taught jazz, hip hop and pom to all levels of Chinese and ex-patriot students.
Gina’s performing arts career has taken her beyond just her dancing to include both television acting on shows such as CSI and House of Cards and print modeling. She also serves as a judge at dance competitions across the country.
Miss Jasmine Coon
Jasmine grew up dancing at her family-owned studio in Rochester, NY. She graduated from the University at Buffalo with a BA in Dance-Magna Cum Laude. During her undergraduate education in dance she studied Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-hop, Contemporary, Modern, improvisation, and choreography as well as pre-medical courses. At UB she performed in many shows such as Emerging Choreographers Showcase, Zodiaque Dance Ensemble, and Dancer’s Workshop. Jasmine also Choreographed many works for the University at Buffalo both in class as well as for their student run production Dancer’s Workshop. While studying at UB, she taught classes at various studios in the Buffalo, NY area, and continued to set choreography as well as teach master classes at studios in her hometown of Rochester, NY. For Jasmine, dance is a creative art that can have a powerful effect on the lives of others both through performance as well as instruction.
Miss Fatima Farhan
Fatima started dancing in Northern Virginia at an early age, with training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and Lyrical. Fatima's passion and hard work led her to receive a dance scholarship and she later joined the studio’s performing company, who she began competing nationally with in award-winning pieces. She was also named captain and assistant coach of her high school competing dance team for both her junior and senior years.
Fatima went on to attend Old Dominion University where she majored in International Studies and minored in Dance. In college she was able to further train in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, and Yoga/Pilates. Fatima has always had a strong love and interest for creating choreography, specifically in the Contemporary style, which she got to explore more at her university. She was able to choreograph many pieces at her school, with her work being chosen for shows alongside faculty pieces, and she has hosted several workshops for students.
Mr. Justin Nguyen
Justin Nguyen is a hip hop instructor in the Northern Virginia area. Since 2007, he has taken his passion for teaching to educate his students the movements and history of the dance style.
Continuing his mission of broadening awareness and preaching the positive influence of hip hop, Justin joined dance ministry EmaginME in 2009. Justin attended George Mason University where he choreographed for various organizations and graduated with a degree in business. He has developed a special interest in creating works by combining other genres of dance, including a salsa/hip hop fusion piece showcased at Dance Factory’s "Night of 1000 Stars."
Along with working for one of the area's leading entertainment companies, Justin is a dancer at Sax Lounge and currently on tour with Nu-You Wellness.
Miss Avril Hernandez
Miss Avril Hernandez started her love affair with dance in the Philippines at the age of four, rooted primarily in ballet which continued until she emigrated to the United States. Utilizing the fervor and energy of her early teen years, she expanded her artistic repertoire and also undertook Jazz and Hip-Hop. That experience would later provide a smooth segue into Modern and Tap Dance, even dabbling in Ballroom through her college years. In 2007, she was accepted into the summer program at New York City's Amy Marshall Dance Company, a company known for its provocative and strong choreography.
In 2011, Miss Avril followed her dreams to Los Angeles. She got accepted with a $10,000 scholarship at American Musical & Dramatic Academy (AMDA) where she studied Dance Theatre. After moving back home, she taught at Dance Institute of Washington for two years.
Currently, Miss Avril continues her pursuit of her dance career. She hopes to feed the aspirations of the would be dancers she's met and will meet, so that they too may further their dreams and find their heart's desires as she is. She continues to teach in various schools and dance studios in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. When she's not learning choreography or teaching dance, Miss Avril works in Hospitality, travels as much as she can, and spends time with her family and friends.
Rafael "Stelf" San Juan
Rafael San Juan, aka Stelf was born in Washington DC, raised in the Philippines, and now resides in the Northern Virginia area. He began to express himself through bboying in 1999 after being drawn to the raw, poetic and athletic aspects of the artform. Soon he began practicing and competing with the well-known LAB RATZ CREW along with the 2nd generation of ARRIVE2DEFY. Aside from competing and judging, he is also a dance instructor working with various studios and currently performing on tour with United Way. Using bboying as an engine for self discovery and self expression, Stelf shows youths and adults the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of dance as well as increasing awareness of HipHop culture's positive attitude on life. Currently in school studying Business, Stelf's main focuses are building a strong foundation for his dance, representing with his crews, inspiring as many people as possible, and sharing his skills by teaching others. Stelf continues to develop his own style of dance and hopes to one day to take it around the world, as well as to pass on everything he knows to the next generation to help build a thriving local scene for BBOYING/BREAKDANCE
