Spring 2017 Dance Policies
Registration / Tuition
A registration fee of $25 per family is due at the time of registration along with the first month of tuition. The registration fee holds your place in the class and is non-refundable.
Dance Tuition for the Spring Session is divided into 6 monthly installments from January through June for your convenience. Tuition is payable on the 1st of each month in advance via automated credit card or debit card. The monthly installment amount does not vary based on the number of classes in any given month, holidays, vacations, etc. Families preferring to pay by cash or check may do so, but are responsible for on-time payment. Payments are due the first class of each month. Late payments are subject to a $5 late fee per week. All returned checks will be subject to a $35 fee. Please make all checks payable to "HeartBeats Music and Dance."
If you miss a class due to illness or family emergency you may call or email the studio to set up a time to make-up in another similar class if one exists. Please notify the studio as soon as possible if you are going to miss a class. This opens up make-up spaces for other students and ensures the availability of a make-up class for you. Please note that attendance is important to the learning process and you are expected to be in your assigned class each week unless an unavoidable problem arises. Excessive absenteeism may result in your inability to participate in upcoming performances and will inhibit your advancement to the next class level.
Cancellations and Refunds
Withdrawal from a class requires a two week notice and must be given directly to the desk staff, NOT TO THE TEACHER. Refunds for any pre-paid tuition will be issued in the form of a studio account credit for the full amount of any remaining classes after the two week notice period, or in the form of the original payment for the full amount of any remaining classes minus a $25 administrative fee.
Parent / Guardian Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all school activities such as viewing days, recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open and closed. The school will post notices primarily via email. It is the parent's responsibility to regularly check to ensure they are informed. It is also the responsibility of the parent or adult student to inform the school of any address, phone or email changes. HeartBeats is a technology-based studio and our primary method of communication is via email for notices and receipts. It is the responsibility of each family to ensure that they are receiving and reading studio emails.
In the event of inclement weather, Perfect Pointe class cancellations generally follow Fairfax County School District closings. We will also post cancellations on our website and Facebook page for your convenience. If school has been cancelled we may still open for afternoon and evening classes if road conditions improve. When in doubt, always check the website - we try to make closing decisions at least 2 hours prior to any affected classes. You may schedule make-ups for these missed classes - refunds will not be given.
Care of Students
The school cannot provide before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 5 are asked to remain close to the school during classes. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time before or after lessons. Please provide a cell phone number in case of emergencies.
Dance is a physically challenging activity. While all due care is taken to provide proper warm-ups and instruction, parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal lesson activity or other activity conducted by the students before, during or after lesson time.
Photo and Video Release
HeartBeats is hereby granted permission to take photographs and videos of students for use on its web sites and printed promotional materials. Permission is also hereby granted for the school to copyright such photographs and videos in its name.
Required dancewear and dance shoes must be worn to all classes. Failure to wear required dancewear to class could result in students being asked to sit out the class. Repeated failure to wear required dancewear could result in termination of lessons. Students are not permitted to wear jeans or street shoes in class.
Adults: Comfortable clothes that you can move in. Bare feet or ballet slippers.
Toddlers: Dance leotard and tights, with or without skirt, pink ballet slippers and hair pulled back recommended for girls. Comfortable clothes that you can move in and black ballet shoes recommended for boys.
Jr. and Sr. Pre-school Combo
Girls: Black or pink dance leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, black patent leather tap shoes (please replace ribbons with elastics to facilitate shoe changes or purchase elastic or buckle shoes), black or pink skirt optional (no tutus please), hair pulled back. Boys refer to Dance Combo Boys. Boys: Black sweat pants, stretch pants, or shorts, black or white t-shirt, black ballet slippers, black leather lace up tap shoes.
Dance Combo 5-7
Girls: Black dance leotard, pink tights, black ballet slippers, black leather (not patent) Mary Jane or U-shell style tap shoes, black, pink, or purple skirt optional, hair pulled back.
Boys: Black sweat pants, stretch pants, or shorts, black or white t-shirt, black ballet slippers, black leather lace up tap shoes.
Dance Combo 8+
Girls: Solid color dance leotard, tights (pink, tan, or black), black or purple shorts or leggings optional, hair pulled back, black leather (not patent) Mary Jane or U-shell style tap shoes and black split sole jazz shoe, no laces.
Boys: Black tight fitting jazz pants, shorts or tights and dance belt, tight fitting solid color t-shirt or tank top, black leather lace up tap shoes and black split sole jazz shoes.
Black leotard, pink tights, pink leather or canvas split-sole ballet shoes, optional skirt, hair in a bun.
Solid color leotard, tan tights, leather full sole tap shoes, hair in a bun or high ponytail.
Solid color leotard, tan tights, tan slip-on jazz shoes, hair in a bun or high ponytail.
Solid color leotard with fitted shorts and/or footless tights, bare feet, hair in bun/braid/twist (no loose ponytails).
Girls: Black or purple dance leotard, tights (pink, tan, or black), black or purple shorts or leggings optional, hair pulled back, black split-sole jazz shoes, no laces.
Boys: Black tight fitting jazz pants, shorts or tights and dance belt, tight fitting black, purple, or white t-shirt or tank top, black split-sole jazz shoes, no laces.
Black sweat pants, stretch pants, jazz pants or shorts; solid color t-shirt or tank; sneakers; hair in a high ponytail.
